SOS DISTRESS SIGNAL

The SOS animal shelter in Pyrohovo is sending a distress signal!!!!!!

The SOS animal shelter in Pyrohovo was founded in the early years of Ukrainian independence. It is the FIRST animal shelter in Ukraine.

On September 29, 1997, Belgian Princess Elisabeth de Croÿ officially opened the animal shelter in Pyrohovo.

For over 28 years, stray animals have been finding refuge and help on the territory of this shelter.

In 2013, Viktor Yanukovych Jr. became interested in the shelter's territory. He visited the shelter several times and openly stated "these mutts won't be here." I met with him three times and tried to explain that the animal shelter in Pyrohovo is the first in Ukraine, built in 1997 exclusively with funds from citizens and prominent politicians of Western Europe. The shelter is still mainly supported by donations from Western European citizens.

My meetings with Viktor Yanukovych Jr. ended with the shelter being set on fire and my car being burned…

Then the Maidan revolution began, which diverted attention from the shelter in Pyrohovo. We very much hoped that the bad times for the shelter were over. But things didn't turn out as expected. Since the beginning of 2015 and to this day, unidentified individuals have been conducting an organized criminal campaign against the shelter involving the 1+1 TV channel, aimed at discrediting the shelter's activities and carrying out physical attacks on the shelter. We assume that the far-reaching goal of such criminal activity is the nearly 2 hectares of land in Pyrohovo where the animal shelter is currently legally located.

Brief summary of factual circumstances:

During 2015–2016, criminals carried out 5 poisonings of animals. Over 30 dogs died in terrible agony.

2018 — On July 31 and August 31, attacks on the shelter were carried out by assistants of members of parliament O. Liashko, I. Mosiichuk and A. Denysenko, during which bodily injuries were inflicted on the shelter director and one shelter employee, as documented by forensic medical examination and submitted to the MPD.

Today, one of the active attackers, a former assistant of A. Denysenko, has become a member of parliament from the "Servant of the People" party…

We conducted our own investigation of the shelter shootings in 2018. One of the animal hunters turned out to be the personal bodyguard of oligarch Yuriy Kosiuk. We managed to communicate with the management of MHP, which belongs to Mr. Kosiuk, and this animal hunter was immediately fired, and the shelter management received a letter from MHP with an apology for the actions of their employee…

2019 — On September 6, six doghouses near the shelter were set on fire.

2019 — On October 3, 10, and 23, armed men came to the shelter at night to shoot "animals." Each time we called the police. They came, talked to the armed men, and categorically refused to accept a report from shelter employees…

And then on October 24, at night, unknown individuals came to the shelter and began hunting people — the shelter's night guards. The small building where the guards rest was shot at. They shot at the window — 4 bullets pierced the glass and flew into the room…

Tamara Tarnavska

The shelter for homeless cats and dogs is located on the site of a former city dump, on a hill behind the village of Pyrohovo. It was built back in 1960 and was popularly called the "knackery" or simply "the booth."

Over more than 20 years, the Pyrohovo shelter has become a true home for four-legged friends. Many of them arrive sick and injured. Some dogs are picked up on the streets by shelter staff and volunteers, others are abandoned at the door.

At the local veterinary clinic, animals are treated, nursed back to health, sterilized, and then sent to special quarters (for cats) or enclosures (for dogs).

Here you will find a cat or dog that speaks to your heart. And the best part — it's free!

Each resident tries to win your heart! They show all their best qualities! Dogs play, jump, and give kisses. And cats observe, purr, cuddle, and gently snuggle up…

And each of them waits and hopes for YOU! When YOU come for them and give them a home, love, attention, and a FAMILY

It's impossible to take them all at once. But YOU can give one creature a wonderful life, and they will be grateful to you every morning!

A place where you understand the value of life. A huge number of dogs and cats inside the shelter. About thirty outside. What's encouraging is that the dogs are fed. Volunteers come often. Thank you to the shelter staff for your work!!!

A good shelter. The dogs and cats are cared for and monitored. 90% of dogs are social — they run, play and swim in the nearby lake (LIVING!). THANK YOU to the owner Tamara for being an honest person who has fought all her life to improve the condition of animals in our country! A wonderful place!

I don't know who says what about this shelter, but I saw everything with my own eyes: about a thousand dogs and more than three hundred cats have found their real home here! The animals are well-groomed and well-fed, not a single one has visible ribs. And they follow the director in a line like a mother.
